Your Mental Health

The internet tells us; In 1995, the World Federation for Mental Health and the World Health Organization established this day with the purpose of contributing to raising awareness about mental health problems and eradicating myths and stigmas around this topic.

With this topic, I want to make the world aware of the importance of taking care of our mental health, because more than avoiding sadness, avoiding anger, avoiding anxiety, or any other emotions; it is recognizing that we all have these emotions and even more, which we experience daily. This is what makes us human beings, alive, made of flesh and blood.

In life, we go through: stress, anxiety, panic attacks, traumatic moments, depression, and many more. So why not be more proactive and take care of ourselves before any of these situations happen to us? That way, we can use all the tools given to us in therapy to heal.

However, in the current society in which we live, mental health (although it has grown in awareness) is still seen as something negative. I believe this is because when we feel depression, for example, we feel broken and, as they say in English, “hopeless.” It feels like no one can help us, and we are alone.

The reality is that it also hurts to talk about depression; it hurts to talk about why it gives me anxiety. It hurts to talk about traumatic moments in your life, as if you had to “peel the orange” every time you go to therapy. This is why the easier and faster solution is often to ignore the feeling and continue with life, or many times, to melt into those emotions and hit rock bottom.

Life, although chaotic, is very beautiful. Living, feeling, smelling, eating that ice cream you like so much, seeing birds and their different colors—in truth, life has its beautiful side. But it’s understandable if sometimes we don’t feel that way. Always REMEMBER THAT THERE IS SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP YOU! YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU IMAGINE.

Mental health is important because being well with yourself is important.
